Different featured images for each category for a single post

Hi there!

I couldn’t find a related issue, just featured images for categories if there’s non set up for a post in a category.

My goal is to set up different featured images for a post based on categories.

E.g. Post ‘post_1’ is categorized as ‘cat_A’ and ‘cat_B’.
When I click on my.wordpress.site/category/cat_A/ the readers can see the post with the featured image ‘featPost1Img_catA’, but if a reader comes to the post via my.wordpress.site/category/cat_B/ the featured image ‘featPost1Img_catB’ is shown.

I hope you understand what I’m looking for.

For sure there’s a conflict when you see the post via my.wordpress.site/ because there’s no category chosen via URL. But so far this is not a problem for me when either ‘featPost1Img_catA’ or ‘featPost1Img_catA’ is visible.

Another remark: The ‘featPost1Img_catA’ and ‘featPost1Img_catB’ are not category bound! They’re post dedicated.
( ‘post_2‘ will get ‘featPost2Img_catA’ and ‘featPost2Img_catB’ [and ‘featPost2Img_catC’,…])
