Installed plugins have disappeared and new ones can’t be installed

I’m working on an existing site that used to work fine, but now all of the previously installed plugins have disappeared and it won’t let me install new ones.

I’m using the Event theme from Themify, but I’ve tried switching to another theme and the problem persists. I’ve also checked cPanel and can see the previous installed plugins still there in the appropriate folders.

Can anyone think what might be wrong and how I can fix it?
